Food For Life: Walsall Early Years

A Food for Life Early Years Award is a great way to demonstrate that your nursery or children's centre is giving every child in your care the best possible start to their food journey.

It shows the wider world you're providing tasty, nutritious meals in an environment that creates great social skills. You're also sowing the seeds of good food habits for life through practical cooking and growing activities and food-based learning - both for children and their parents and carers.

The award has been developed working closely with early years settings and using expert learning from their flagship schools award programme - which has shown through independent evaluation to make a positive contribution to pupil health and wellbeing.

Walsall Public Health have commisisoned Food For Life to work with 42 Early Years Settings.

Change4Life School Zone

PHE has launched a new on line resource for primary teachers called the Change4Life School Zone. It provides curriculum-linked materials and inspiration to help teach pupils about healthy eating and being active. The School Zone features exciting lesson activities, homework tasks and whole school ideas for teachers to use with KS1 and KS2 pupils. Teachers can join the School Zone mailing list to be kept up to date about new resources and campaigns.

In the New Year PHE will have some new Healthy Eating teaching resources available for KS1 and KS2. These will support the launch of the new Change4Life consumer campaign. Please visit the School Zone for updates. For any questions about the schools programme please contact partnerships@phe.gov.uk
