Public health is about helping people to stay healthy, and protecting them from threats to their health. We want everyone to be able to make healthier choices, regardless of their circumstances, and to minimise the risk and impact of illness.
School attainment and health are closely linked. Children and young people flourish in a positive environment where physical and emotional health is actively promoted within a whole-school approach involving parents / carers, governors, staff and students.
Working with public health and wider health and wellbeing providers to promote the health of pupils, including through supporting child measurement and screening can be an important way of demonstrating your focus on student health and wellbeing and can contribute to a school where students are happy to attend and learn. This then has the potential to impact positively on an Ofsted inspection.Children’s health and wellbeing is an important issue and will continue to be monitored as part of the common inspection framework.
