Walsall Outdoor Pursuits is an accredited provider of adventure activities
from the following organisations:

  • Adventure Activities Licensing Services L0686/R0431.
  • Royal Yachting Association Recognised Teaching Centre for sailing, windsurfing and power boating.
  • Royal Yachting Association Sailability Foundation Centre for disabled sailing.
  • We provide urban adventure at two activity centres in Walsall.

Adventure activities for pupils with a disability.

  • Over the last twenty four months Walsall Outdoor Pursuits have extended the range of adapted activities for people with a disability, including: sailing, canoeing, climbing, high rope course, archery and orienteering.
  • We have new low rope course elements including abseil ramp, see-saw and rickety bridge elements solely for wheelchair and electronic type users.
  • This is the only one of its type in the Midlands.
  • The new all ability tricycle programme includes, side by side tricycles, wheelchair tandem and hand cycles. Giving cycling and leisure opportunities for children and adults with both learning and physical disabilities.

Why choose us?

We are local in Walsall, inclusive and accessible by children with a disability. Cost effective, urban adventure and pathways to local clubs and adventure sport groups.

Activities Offered:

Aldridge Airport Outdoor Activity Centre.

  • Low ropes course consisting of a series of obstacles set 2ft from the floor designed to engage group interaction, problem solving and leadership skills.
  • Jacob’s Ladder, High All Aboard and the Leap of Faith – participants will use a belay system to support their colleagues, working as a team whilst they climb to 15 meters.
  • The High Aerial Trekking Course approx 10 meters from the ground takes you to another level. The course offers a continuous belay system which allows pupils to negotiate 9 obstacles without ever unclipping.
  • Climbing Wall – personal challenge, working as a team – can be pitched at all levels of ability.
  • On site Orienteering can be done as an individual or as a team activity. Course laid out on site, gentle stroll and questions – no running about!
  • Crate Challenge – a group challenge, working as a team to build a tower or structure.
  • Problem Solving exercises – various.
  • Indoor Archery

Sneyd Water Activities Centre

  •  Kayaking & Canoeing – single seater kayaks or 3 seater open canoes.
  • Oppie Sailing – a small sailing dinghy for Primary schools.
  • Topper & Pico’s – larger single handed dinghy for secondary school children and adults.
  • Omega & GP 14 – a crewed dinghy with a capacity for 2 to 6 children or adults.
  • Windsurf – various sizes to board 7 rigs from secondary school to adult.

Adventure Activities for people with a disability:

Aldridge Airport Outdoor Activity Centre

  •  Assisted climbing – for less ambulant pupils. The use of a pulley system allows Instructors greater assistance when climbing.
  • Pro-traxion hoist – for wheelchair users. This system allows pupils the freedom to climb to the High all Aboard and to
    complete the High Aerial Challenge Course.
  • Purpose Built Rope Course – We have a new abseil ramp, see-saw and rickety bridge rope course elements solely for wheelchair users. This is the only one of its type in the Midlands.
  • Purpose Built Tricycles – The new bikeability all ability programmes includes, side by side tricycles, wheelchair tandem and hand cycles.
    Giving cycling and leisure opportunities for children and adults with both learning and physical disabilities.
  • Photo Orienteering – allows pupils who would not be able to read a conventional map access to orienteering.
  • Adapted Archery – the archery stand allows pupils, who cannot hold the bow, access to archery. We also have various devices which protect the arms, fingers, and hold & release the bow string.

Sneyd Water Activities Centre

  • Access Sailing – a specially designed dinghy.
    We now have a fleet of 20 access dinghies, including twinned and single handers. The 8 new dinghies include the 2.3 & 303 sport, allowing pupils with a full range of disability including wheelchair user’s access to sailing activities.
  • The Wayfarer – The new Wayfarer allows visually impaired and pupils with a learning difficulty to sail a very stable conventional dinghy.
  • Rob Roy & Kiwi kayaks – sit on style kayaks which prevents entrapment of the pupil.
